Welcome to St Lawrence State School
St Lawrence State School is a small rural school located on Koinmerburra Country, approximately 177 kilometres north of Rockhampton and 155 kilometres south of Mackay.
We provide a welcoming, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every student is known, valued and encouraged to succeed. Our small school setting is one of our greatest strengths, allowing us to build strong relationships with students and families and provide responsive learning experiences that meet the needs of each child.

At St Lawrence State School, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.
Our students learn in a multi-age classroom environment, with teaching and learning aligned to the Australian Curriculum. Small class sizes and strong staff-to-student ratios allow us to provide targeted support, extension and feedback while maintaining high expectations for every learner.
Technology is embedded across learning, with students having access to individual computers, iPads and digital learning opportunities. These resources allow us to connect our students with learning, teachers and experiences beyond our local community while complementing the rich face-to-face learning that occurs within our school.
We focus on building strong foundations in literacy and numeracy while developing curious, capable and confident learners who can think critically, solve problems, collaborate and take increasing responsibility for their learning.
Small school, big opportunities
Being a small rural school does not mean having small opportunities.
Our students participate in a wide range of academic, cultural, sporting and community experiences. We work closely with neighbouring schools and our wider cluster—including Marlborough, Clarke Creek, Carmila and Milman State Schools—providing opportunities for students to learn, compete, collaborate and build friendships with other young people across our region. We also are part of the greater Sarina and Sandy Creek clusters, providing opportunities for our students (like camps) with similar-aged students.
We also seek opportunities for our students to access specialist programs, excursions, sporting experiences, community events and learning experiences that connect the curriculum with the world beyond the classroom.

St Lawrence State School is proud to be part of the St Lawrence community.
Our students come from families connected with grazing, fishing, local government, industry and the many other occupations that sustain our rural and coastal community. We value the knowledge, experiences and perspectives our students and families bring to our school.
We believe education is strongest when schools, families and communities work together. Students are encouraged to contribute to their school and community, develop leadership skills and understand that their ideas and actions can make a positive difference.

Positive relationships and a strong sense of belonging are central to our school.
We explicitly support students to develop resilience, independence, responsibility and the personal and social skills they need to successfully navigate learning and life. Our staff know our students well and work closely with families and support services to ensure students feel safe, supported and ready to learn.
